Late last week, HEC reached the first major milestone on the Old Champlain Bridge Deconstruction Project in Montreal, Quebec. The suspended span of the structure, which spans over the Saint Lawrence Seaway navigation channel, was successfully disengaged and lowered onto a pair of barges using strand jacks for further dismantling off-site. This was a very challenging stage of the project that required an enormous effort by many engineers and draftsman across the company. HEC are the Deconstruction Engineers for this project and as such, we are responsible for all the deconstruction phasing/sequencing, means and methods as well as the design of all temporary works.
